The Rapid Fire Book Tag

22 november 2016

I haven't done a book tag in a while, so I thought it was high time to do one again! The Rapid Fire book tag is a tag I've been seeing a lot on booktube, and it looked like a lot of fun, so I decided to go with this one.

This tag was created by Kate from GirlReading, and (as usual) I wasn't tagged by anyone. The idea of this tag is to not think too much about the questions, and just answer them. So, let's do this.

E-Book or Physical Book?
Physicial books all the way! Don't get me wrong, I like e-books and they're very convenient, but nothing beats the experience of a physical book.

Paperback or Hardback?
Paperback! My blog isn't called Green Tea & Paperbacks for nothing, haha. Paperbacks are just so much cheaper, easier to take with you and a lot less heavy to hold while reading (I'm weak, okay). And with paperbacks you don't have to deal with dust jackets, which is definitely a plus.

Online or In-Store Book Shopping?
Because I read English books and live in a non-English speaking country, getting the books I want in store is nearly impossible. My local bookstore only has one shelf of English books, and most of them are mysteries and thrillers, which I don't really care for. So I'd have to go with online!

Trilogies or Series?
Trilogies. I don't read a lot of series anyway, and I get bored being in a world for too long.

Heroes or Villains?
Ooh, this is a hard one! I think villains, because they're just a lot more interesting than heroes most of the time. But I prefer grey characters, who are in between heroes and villains.

A book you want everyone to read?
I always struggle a lot with this question. Do I go for a book that has a lot of important messages, or do I go for a book that I'm sure people will enjoy and get them into reading?
I think I'll go for Animal Farm by George Orwell! It's entertaining, very interesting, and has a very clear and important message. And it goes extremely well with the time we're living in now.

Recommend an underrated book?
Some Kind of Happiness by Claire Legrand! It's a beautiful MG book about a girl who deals with anxiety and depression, and not enough people have read it.

The last book you finished?
Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven. I wasn't a fan.

The Last Book You Bought?
I ordered books for a friend for our secret santa thingy yesterday! I won't tell you which ones, because she might read this and I want it to be a surprise.
The last book I ordered for myself was a poetry collection by Sappho. I want to get more into poetry and I've read a bit of her work in ancient-Greek class and I really loved it.

Weirdest Thing You've Used as a Bookmark?
A fork. Don't ask.

Used Books: Yes or No?
YES! New books can often be very expensive, so I'm happy when I can get a cheaper copy on Amazon marketplace. (The 'the Dutch are very cheap' stereotype is confirmed.)

Top Three Favourite Genres?
I don't know the names of a lot of genres? I mean, is YA a genre in itself, or is YA contemporary the name of the genre? As a book blogger I should probably know this, haha. But fantasy is definitely one of my favorites. And I also really enjoy almost every YA and MG book.

Borrow or Buy?
I love having my own library, so I'm going with buy. I also like not having a deadline to read a certain book, like you often have with libraries or when you borrow a book from someone.

Characters or Plot?
I can like a book with great characters but a shitty plot, but I can't like a book with shitty characters and a great plot. So, characters.

Long or Short Books?
Long, but not over 600 pages. That's just too intimidating.

Long or Short Chapters?
Short! It makes me feel a lot more productive, because it feels like I'm getting through the book a lot faster.

Name The First Three Books You Think Of...
A Monster Calls, Am I Normal Yet?, The Sun is Also a Star.

Books That Makes You Laugh or Cry?
I cry at almost every book, even if it's because I'm happy, so I'm going to go with laughing. I love to laugh, but it takes a lot for a book to actually make me laugh out loud.

Our World or Fictional Worlds?
I wonder if anyone would choose for our world, because fictional worlds are so much better! Well, as long as it's not a dystopian.

Audiobooks: Yes or No?
Only when I'm in the right mood, otherwise I get too distracted.

Do You Ever Judge a Book by its Cover?
All the time.

Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?
I have never really seen a book to TV adaptation, but I think I'd prefer that because I prefer TV-shows to movies anyway. I just don't have the attention span to watch a movie, and movies easily bore me.

A Movie or TV-Show You Preferred to its Book?
Even though I loved both the movie and the book, I'm going with Pride and Prejudice! I just loved seeing the story and characters come to live, and the scenery definitely made the whole movie for me. It was gorgeous!
Also, while reading the book I didn't understand Mr. Darcy's appeal. He just felt like a very cranky old 'get of my lawn' man. But while watching the movie, I began to understand why everyone thinks he's so swoon-worthy.

Series or Standalone's?
Series, I love getting to know characters a little more, and having a bit of a 'deeper' story. I often feel like standalone's only scratch the surface of a story, when it could have been so much more!
This only goes for fantasy books, though. With contemporary's I prefer standalone's.

So, that was the Rapid Fire book tag! Now tell me, what is the weirdest thing you've used as a bookmark?

The Hamilton Book Tag

8 september 2016

This tag was created by maureenkeavy over on Youtube!

I know I'm super duper late to this party. For some reason book tags always take me a long time to complete, but luckily that doesn't make them any less fun!
I completely fell in love with Hamilton some time ago. I was super late to the party because I didn't expect to love it. I don't like rap, and I don't like musical, so why would I love a musical about some guy that's important to America? But needless to say, I completely fell in love with it the moment I started listening to it. I don't feel like this book tag needs a longer intro, so here we go:

The Room Where It Happens - a book you would put yourself in
The Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus world! I know that it's technically our world, but it just seems so much better! Well, except from the constantly almost dying part. But the characters are amazing, and I'd love to actually get to hang out with them at Camp half-blood and go on adventures with them. But, only if the me-version in this world is a super badass fighter, because I don't feel like dying at the hands of some scary creature just yet.

The Schuyler Sister - an underrated female character
Prim from The Hunger Games! I think everyone (including myself, at first) keeps seeing her as Katniss's adorable little sister, but she's so much more. She's very brave, caring and compassionate, and I absolutely love her.

My Shot - a character who goes after what they want no matter what
Voldemort anyone? He literally splits his soul and murders a lot of people to get what he wants. That's just crazy.

Stay Alive - a character you wish was still alive
I'm going with 2 for this one, because I really wish Lupin and Tonks from the Harry Potter series were still alive. They were such amazing characters, and they just got married and just had a son. They deserved so much more!

Burn - the most heartbreaking end to a relationship
The end of the relationship between Ruby and Liam in The Darkest Minds was absolutely heart-breaking and made me bawl my eyes out. They developed such an amazing relationship throughout the book, and then having it to end the way that it did was just not okay.

You'll be back - the sassiest villain
Definitely Victor Vale from Vicious! I'm still not too sure if he's the villain, though, but that's the main reason why I love this book so much. All of the characters in Vicious are so morally grey, and I wish there were more characters like that because it's just so interesting to see.
I could also go with Queen Levana from The Lunar Chronicles, who is one of my favorite villains. She's just so good at being bad, and she's the queen of sass.

Non-Stop - a series you marathoned
The Selection series! They're definitely my guilty pleasure reads; they're not that good, but they're so so good at the same time! (I am making so much sense right now.) I couldn't stop reading the series once I started it. And Maxon, OMG, he's so dreamy.

Satisfied - favorite book with multiple POVs
I get confused very easily while reading books with multiple POVs. There are only a few expectations, and my favorite expectation is The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. I love that entire series. I love the characters, the adventures and the mythology, and this makes me realize how much I want to reread this series.

Helpless - a relationship you were pulling for from the start
This question made me think of the book I'm currently reading, The Kiss of Deception. I shipped Lia and Rafe from the moment they laid eyes on each other. And now that I found out who Rafe really is, I'm shipping them even more! I hope this ship won't sink in the course of the series, but then again, I'd happily volunteer to be Rafe's new love interest if it doesn't work out between them.

What comes next - a series you wish had more books
Definitely The Hunger Games! I'd love to read more about certain characters, like Haymitch and Effie, and I would love to see what previous hunger games were like.

What I'd Miss - a book or series you were late to reading
I am late to a lot of books and series, but the main one for me is The Hunger Games! I was never that interested in them, because I had already seen the movies and I didn't love them that much. However, the series is one of my closest friend's favorite, so she made me read them and I love her for it! I loved loved loved the entire series.

I have a feeling that everyone who wanted to do this tag has already done it, but if you still want to do it then consider yourself tagged!

What is a series that you marathoned?

R.I.P. It or SHIP It Book Tag

6 februari 2016

Another language altogether. | 15 Things You'll Only Learn From Reading Fan FictionHey guys! I decided to do the R.I.P. It or SHIP It Book Tag, which was created by emmmabooks. I wasn't tagged by anyone but it looked like a lot of fun and it seems perfect for this time of year. Yes, I know, I don't like Valentines either but I want to make it fun and creating new ships sounds like a lot of fun to me.

For this tag you have to write the names of various bookish-characters down on pieces of paper, put these in a jar and then pick out 2 at a time and say whether you'd R.I.P. them or SHIP them! I decided for an odd number of bookish-characters so at the end we'll find out which bookish character will be single forever.

Let the games begin!

Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) and America Singer (The Selection Series)

Well, this is not off to a good start.
I absolutely love Luna Lovegood. She is one of my favourite Harry Potter characters, and I love how odd and sweet she is. America, however, I couldn't stand. She was so annoying, and I think a lot of people agree with me on that.
I'd R.I.P. it!

Queen Levana (The Lunar Chronicles) and Dumbledore (Harry Potter)

Eh, I'm not totally sure about this. Levana is absolutely evil, and I really hated her, but Dumbledore had some issues as well. I definetly liked Dumbledore more than Levana, but maybe Levana would be a bit less evil if she had love in her life? I think Dumbledore is powerful enough to be able to handle Levana, so I think I'd SHIP IT

Annabeth Chase (Percy Jackson) and Aaron Warner (Shatter Me)

Eh, no. I think Annabeth and Aaron would drive each other crazy 24/7. Besides, I ship Percy and Annabeth way too much to ship her with another guy.
R.I.P. IT

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) and Peeta Mellark (The Hunger Games)

SHIP SHIP SHIP I am definetly team Peeta and that will never change.

Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer:

Kenji Kishimoto (Shatter Me) and Thorne Carswell (The Lunar Chronicles)

My favourite characters are ones who are loyal and have great humour, and these two have both of those character traits, so I love them both. I think Kenji and Thorne would have a lot of fun together, and they'd be a great couple.
SHIP IT

"When you say you will GO natural, what you mean to say is that you will RETURN." -I Love Being Black: Which Character From The Darkest Minds Are You:

Princess Winter (The Lunar Chronicles) and Liam Stewart(The Darkest Minds)

I think Liam would be a very protective boyfriend, and Winter would love that! Liam is someone who sees the best in people, and I think he'd love Winter. These two would be such a beautiful couple!
SHIP IT

I got Hermione Granger! Can We Guess Your Favorite "Harry Potter" Character? ~ You see a lot of yourself in Hermione. She’s rational, intelligent, and brave, and you know that she’s the real star of the story.: A Guide to Lunar Chronicles Character Traits | blog post by Marissa Meyer (Cinder art by Laura Hollingsworth - http://lostie815.deviantart.com/):
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) and Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles)

Eh, no. I think Hermione would be a great addition to the The Lunar Chronicles team, but I don't think she and Cinder would make a good couple.
R.I.P. IT

Percy Jackson and Prince Maxon (The Selection)

Can we please talk about how hot Prince Maxon is?
I don't think Percy and Maxon would go well together. Maxon is very gentle and, well, a prince. Percy is a bit more direct and has a much stronger personality, and I think he would be bored very easily with the 'running a kingdom' stuff. And I don't think Maxon could handle all those monsters Percy would definitely bring with him.
R.I.P. IT

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles) and Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)

Ahh this is a tough one. I never really saw Ron as the adventurous type, and Cress wants to see the world, and needs a tough guy, so I don't think they'd be a good fit.
R.I.P. IT

There's only one name left in my little bowl so... who will be the one who will be single forever?

It's...

Leo Valdez (The Heroes of Olympus)
Ahh no this makes me really sad! In the books he always felt like he was the one who doesn't belong and I really don't want him to end up all alone. I'll volunteer to be his girlfriend! End good, all good.
